Originally charted on April 7, 1891, the Wissahickon Fire Company was established to protect the citizens, homes, and business of Ambler Borough and the surrounding communities. Today, we proudly continue this mission, providing emergency fire and rescue services to the approximately 17,500 residents of Ambler Borough and Lower Gwynedd Township. Additionally, we provide support to neighboring departments for incidents that require addtional resources.
We are an all-volunteer organization made up of highly trained, dedicated, and caring individuals. Our volunteers fulfill various roles in the organization, most serving as firefighters, but also as fire police officers and administrative staff. Our members come from many diverse backgrounds with one common desire – to help others.
We operate out of two stations: one in Ambler Borough and another in Lower Gwynedd Township. This allows us to get “on scene” quickly and reduces the potential damage that an emergency might cause. The company operates several vehicles including an engine, squad, ladder, and rescue, along with various traffic and fire police vehicles. Check out the Apparatus page for more information about our fleet.
The Wissahickon Fire Company has been recognized by the State Fire Commissioner’s Office for our firefighters reaching state and national certification levels, including Firefighter I, II & III, Fire Officer I & II, Fire Investigator, Fire Inspector, Haz Mat Operations, and Fire Instructor I & II. Additionally, our members are trained in many specialized areas, including Vehicle Rescue, Water Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Trench and Confined Space Rescue, Firefighter Assist and Search Team, and Terrorism Response. With the dedication of these volunteers, our communities are assured of the best protection available, 24 hours a day, every day of the year. We welcome new members. If you are interested in making a difference in your community, check out the rest of our website and stop by one of the stations any Monday night.
